  • The 10 Best Cat Beds

    1. Hepper Nest Modern Cat Bed – Best Overall

    Hepper Nest Cat Bed

The Hepper Nest Modern Cat Bed is our pick for the best overall cat bed. It’s large-sized and has plenty of room for larger cats up to 20 pounds. It has a bowl shape and is a little over ten-inches wide at the base and a little over 17 inches wide at the top. The inside lining where your pet sleeps has a Sherpa lining which is quite soft and comfortable, and it comes out for easy cleaning. It holds its shape using molded EVA foam that is soft and flexible. The liner is machine washable, so you can keep it clean and odor-free with minimal effort.

Our cats loved the Hepper Nest Modern Cat Bed, and we would usually find them in there sleeping. The only downside we could mention is that it stands nearly 6 inches tall, so some smaller cats may have difficulty getting in. It also takes a little longer than others for small cats to get used to using it since they can’t see the bottom from the outside. But, kittens love it because it’s exciting to get in and to be inside it!

All in all, we think this Hepper cat bed is the best cat bed and the best cat bed for kittens available.

    Pros
    • Holds 20-pound cats
    • Sherpa lined
    • Modern design
    • Machine washable
    Cons
    • Too tall for smaller cats

You might have guessed, this is our own product – but we love it so much we just have to share it, and hope you get to own one too!

    2. Aspen Pet Round Bolster Cat Bed – Best Value

Aspen Pet Round Animal Print Bolster Cat & Dog Bed

The Aspen Pet Round Bolster Cat Bed is our pick for the best cat bed for the money. It’s a thick round bed that uses a durable polyester material filled with polyfill stuffing. It’s durable, machine washable, and at 18 inches in diameter, is large enough for most cats. The soft material is comfortable, and the raised sides support your pet while still allowing the bed to be easy to get in.

The Aspen Pet Round Bolster Cat Bed is lightweight and easy to transport. Our cats enjoy it, and the only thing we can put on the cons list is that it took a while for our cats to get used to it and give it a try, but once they did, they regularly used it.

    Pros
    • Raised sides
    • Machine washable
    • 18-inches across
    • Soft
    Cons
    • It takes a while to get used to

    3. Hepper Pod Cave Cat Bed – Premium Choice

    Hepper Pod Cave Cat Bed

The Hepper Pod Cave Cat Bed is our premium choice cat bed. It’s raised off the ground so your cat can get a better view of its territory, and it also allows the cat better access to warmer air during the winter. Its modern design will look attractive in any room, and its fleece lining is soft, comfortable, and machine washable. The Hepper cat bed will require some assembly, but the directions are clear, and it only took us a few minutes. It’s durable, and the legs have non-slip pads, so it doesn’t slide as your cat is jumping in.

The Hepper Pod Cave is attractive but is also expensive. We found it a little too small for our larger cats to get through the door, but you can take the lid of which all of our cats like much better, but it seems like a bed without the top would be less costly.

When it comes to premium options, we think this is the best cat bed out there.

    Pros
    • Modern design
    • Washable lining
    • Easy to assemble
    • Fleece lining
    • Large door
    • Durable
    • Non-slip
    Cons
    • Better for smaller cats
    • Expensive

You might have guessed, this is our own product – but we love it so much we just have to share it, and hope you get to own one too!

    4. Frisco Rectangular Bolster Cat Bed

    Frisco Rectangular Bolster Cat Bed

The Frisco Rectangular Bolster Cat Bed is an attractive bed for your pet available in multiple sizes, the largest of which is more than 26 inches across and 22 inches deep, which is more than enough for any cat. It has an ultra-plush sleeping area that your pet will love and raised sides for support. The outer material is a neutral-colored faux suede that will look great in any environment.

The biggest downside to the Frisco is that you can only wash it in front-loading machines, so if you don’t have one, you will need to resort to washing it by hand in hot water.

    Pros
    • Ultra-plush sleeping area
    • Raised sides
    • Faux suede outer material
    • Multiple sizes
    Cons
    • Not machine washable

    5. Best Friends by Sheri Calming Cat Bed

Best Friends by Sheri Calming Cat Bed

The Best Friends by Sheri Calming Cat Bed is a fluffy bed that features faux shag fur that is attractive and comfortable. It’s quite large at 45 inches in diameter and can fit more than one cat if they get along. It has raised edges for support and is machine washable for easy and convenient maintenance. The nylon bottom is water-resistant and can help with spills and accidents.

The downside to the Best Friends bed is that while it’s quite fluffy and soft, the inner cushion is quite thin and doesn’t provide much cushion, especially since it’s one of the more expensive beds on this list.

    Pros
    • Faux shag fur
    • Water-resistant nylon bottom
    • Raised edges
    • Machine washable
    • Large size
    Cons
    • Not much cushion
    • Expensive

    6. Armarkat Cave Shape Covered Cat Bed

Armarkat Cave Shape Covered Cat & Dog Bed

The Armarkat Cave Shape Covered Cat Bed is another model with a waterproof base that can come in handy in many circumstances. It also allows you to put it on the porch or in the yard temporarily for some summertime lounging. It uses a luxe velvet fabric that’s soft and comfortable with extra thick polyfill. If you’re looking for washable cat beds, this covered cat bed is machine washable, but the top-selling point is its unique cave shape that provides your cat with shelter and shade and is sure to be popular with your pet.

The downside to the Armarkat is that the top is easy to crush if your cat jumps on it, which it always does, and it doesn’t pop back up. You will need to pull it back up, and until then, the cat won’t be able to use the cave. Another problem we had was that it was a bit of a tight fit for our bigger cats.

    Pros
    • Waterproof and anti-slip base
    • Luxe velvet fabric
    • Extra thick polyfill
    • Machine washable
    • Cave shape
    Cons
    • Easy to crush
    • Better for smaller cats

    7. MidWest Orthopedic Bolster Cat Bed

    MidWest Orthopedic Bolster Cat Bed

The MidWest Orthopedic Bolster Cat Bed features a special shape to be more comfortable for older pets. It has a foam bolster that helps it hold its shape better. The cover is easy to remove and replace, and you can machine wash it, so it is very easy to maintain.

The downside to the MidWest Orthopedic is that it’s not very soft, and we find it hard to believe that it’s comfortable. While the support foam helps the bed keep its shape, there are no supports on the sides, and if the cat puts its head on them, it will collapse.

    Pros
    • Therapeutic beds
    • Foam bolster
    • Machine washable
    • Easy to remove the cover
    Cons
    • Not very soft
    • The sides are not very sturdy

    8. Paws & Pals Bolster Cat Bed

Paws & Pals 1800's Newspaper Bolster Cat & Dog Bed

The Paws & Pals Bolster Cat Bed features an easy-care cotton fabric. It’s a machine washable cat bed and available in multiple sizes to find the perfect fit for your pet. Its lightweight design is ideal for transport, so your cat can always have a familiar place to rest. The plush fabric is soft and comfortable and features a newspaper design.

What we didn’t like about the Paws & Pals is that it was smaller than expected, and it features weak stitching. After a few washes, it started to come apart at the seams.

    Pros
    • Easy care fabric
    • Lightweight design
    • Plush fabric
    • Multiple sizes
    • Machine washable
    Cons
    • Smaller than expected
    • Weak stitching

    9. FurHaven Ultra Plush Oval Bolster Cat & Dog Bed

FurHaven Ultra Plush Oval Bolster Cat & Dog Bed

The FurHaven Ultra Plush Oval Bolster Cat & Dog Bed features an attractive nest-style bed with a cutout in the front that will make it easier for older cats to get in. It has raised sides to support the head and back and a soft plush sitting area. The cover is easy to get on and off, and you can machine wash it. We didn’t have any problems with durability, and our cats seemed to like it.

The downside to the FurHaven was that it’s smaller than expected, so we recommend ordering one size up, and there is not much cushion to create a comfortable sleeping space. We also found that it creates a lot of static when our cats sit in it.

    Pros
    • Attractive nest style bed
    • Multiple sizes and colors
    • Front cutout
    • Machine washable
    Cons
    • Smaller than expected
    • Not much cushion
    • Creates static

    10. K&H Pet Products Self-Warming Cat Bed

K&H Pet Products Self-Warming Cat Bed

The K&H Pet Products Self-Warming Cat Bed is the last pet bed on our list, but it has one unique feature that may make it worth your while. It uses multiple layers of material to create a self-warming bed that works with your cat’s natural body temperature and does not require electricity. It’s also eco-friendly and uses recycled plastic bottles. It’s machine washable and available in multiple color combinations.

The downside to the K&H Pet bed is that it is very thin and flimsy. In fact, it’s easily the thinnest and flimsiest bed on our list. While our pets do like to use it, we can’t say how well the self-heating works since we can’t try it ourselves. We appreciate that it uses recycled plastic, but we’re not sure how long it will hold up.

    Pros
    • Self-warming material
    • Eco friendly
    • Machine washable
    • Multiple color combinations
    Cons
    • Thin and flimsy

Buyer’s Guide: Selecting the Best Cat Bed for Your Cat or Kitten

Let’s look at some of the most important things to consider when choosing the best cat bed for your furry friend.

    Material

One of the first things you will want to decide when choosing your pet bed is what type of material you will be using.  In our experience, using natural material made from cotton or wool is more inviting t the cats, which tends to avoid made-made fabric like polyester. It’s not that they won’t use the polyester bed. It just might take a lot longer to smell like home to some cats. Cats are also more likely to have an allergic reaction to beds that use synthetic material, so if your cat never used polyester fabrics before, it might be a good idea to introduce them slowly.

    Machine Washable

You will also want to check before you purchase your bed to make sure it is machine washable. Your cat’s pet will collect plenty of fur and oils from your cat’s body, and you will need to wash it from time to time to keep it looking new. If your cat comes in contact with fleas, they will also hide in the bed and be difficult to remove without washing it in a machine.  If the entire bad can’t go into the machine, at least the cover should come off.

If you do get a bed that is not machine washable, you can still hand wash it to get rid of the fleas and oils. You will need to fill a tub or large basin with hot water. Wear rubber gloves to get the water as hot as possible, and hand-wash the bed using a pet-safe shampoo. If fleas are on the bed, you will need to use a pet-safe flea and tick shampoo.

    Size

You will need to measure your cat from head to its tail base and use those measurements when choosing a bed for your cat. Most beds have the size listed on the package, but we found quite a few that seemed a lot smaller than they seemed. We tried to list those in our reviews, but you will want to be careful if you continue to shop elsewhere.

    Shape

Most cats have a favorite sleeping position, and you should consider this when choosing your cat bed. Long rectangle beds are better for cats that like to sleep stretched out, while a round basket style bed will be suitable for a cat that likes to sleep curled up.

Some beds also come with more elaborate shapes, like the cave-style bed in our reviews. These beds can provide your pet with a better experience, and they may use them more often than they use other beds, especially f they offer a better vantage point.

    Accessories

Some beds may offer a wide variety of accessories, and you can only define their usefulness. However, we recommend avoiding beds with strings or tassels and any small parts like beads. Cats can be relentless when they want something and can easily tear off these small parts and swallow them. In some cases, this tugging and pulling can compromise the bed and cause it to fall apart much sooner than it should.

Some beds have heating mechanisms, and they can provide your pet with a warmer experience, especially if they are staying in a colder environment, like an enclosed porch.

Tips for getting your cat to use its bed

    • Place the new bed in an area of the home where your cat already sleeps.
    • Place the bed in a sunny spot of the home, unless you have a hairless cat. Cat’s love sunning themselves and are more likely to try the bed if it’s in an area it enjoys sitting.
    • Make sure it is secure. Many of the cat beds have non-slip bottoms, so they won’t slide or tip over when your cat is trying to get in. if the bed slides, it could scare the cat, and it will be much less likely to try the bed again.
    • It’s common to get a bed for your cat while it’s still a kitten which is fine, but if you notice your cat is outgrowing the bed, you should replace it with a similar but larger model.
    • If you have more than one floor in your home, your cat will appreciate a bed on each floor.
    • If you have more than one cat, each should have a bed to call its own.
    • If you just got the cat, watch it for a while to see how it sleeps, so you are more likely to purchase a bed the cat will enjoy.
    • Look for a brand that uses a mildew-resistant fabric.
