22 Whippet Mixed Breeds You Need to Know About!

22 Whippet Mixed Breeds You Need to Know About! Featured Image

The Whippet is a sweet pooch who has recently won the American Kennel Club’s ‘Best in Show’ 2018 award. Looking at doggy history, when this happens, you usually see an increase in popularity. Which also means a lot more mixed breeds.

The Whippet is described as affectionate, playful, and calm. Because he is so gentle, he tends to add a softer side to most of his mixed puppies. He is also a sighthound traditionally used for racing, so you might not want to let any of these mixes off-leash.

Whippets typically measure between 18 to 22 inches tall, and they weigh 25 to 40 pounds, so he is a small to medium-sized pooch. Thankfully when you’re mixing pooches, you have a chance to ‘design’ them. So, if you are after a canine smaller or larger than the Whippet, the world is your oyster.

So, let’s take a look at all the Whippet options out there.

1. Grey Whippet (Whippet x Greyhound)

The Whippet and the Greyhound are related, so if you want a steady mixed pup that is not going to be too different from the Whippet, this might be your guy. He’ll be the quickest and best sighthound on this list, as well as being super cuddly and gentle. With tall legs, skinny waist, and a long muzzle, people might just think he’s a super big Whippet.

2. Italian Whippet (Whippet x Italian Greyhound)

If you’re looking for a tiny Whippet-lookalike, the Italian Whippet is the way to go. Crossed with the little toy Italian Greyhound, he will only weigh between 15 to 25 pounds, but he has all the same features. He is bouncy, but also a sensitive soul who doesn’t like to be left alone for too long.

3. Whipoodle (Whippet x Poodle)

The Whipoodle is the choice for you if you are seeking a hypoallergenic dog mix. Make sure that you know which size Poodle he is bred with (there are three sizes). His coat will be longer and curlier, which needs daily brushing. This energetic mix needs a lot of physical and mental stimulation to keep him happy, so treat him to a bag of toys.

4. Whipbeagle (Whippet x Beagle)

What do you get when you cross one of the fastest dog breeds with the best doggy nose? The Whipbeagle. You’ll need to keep this guy on a leash because he’ll be off like a shot if he sees or smells anything. This happy-go-lucky dog loves children, and he has very long and velvety ears that they will love to stroke.

5. Aussie Whip (Whippet x Australian Shepherd)

The Aussie Whip tends to look like a Whippet but with the Aussie multicolored jacket and bright blue eyes. This stunning boy has lots of energy that he’ll need to expel, so he needs to be homed with an active family that can keep him happy and healthy. In return, he’ll give you lots of cuddles.

6. Whipgi (Whippet x Corgi)

The Whipgi is much chunkier than the Whippet, and he tends to inherit the larger-than-life Corgi ears and cheeky smile. You’ll have to keep an eye on his herding traits inside the home. But once he learns that he cannot herd the family, he’ll be a loveable pooch who just wants all the attention and belly rubs.

7. Pippet (Whippet x American Pitbull Terrier)

The Pippet looks a lot like the Whippet but one who is packing some serious muscles. This guy is loyal to the end and needs a family that can play and cuddle with him for most of the day. He is very trainable, and he is an adorable and loving pooch. Always check your local laws before committing to a Pitbull mix.

8. Whiphund (Whippet x Dachshund)

The Whiphund will usually keep his signature sausage legs and big paddle paws, but they’ll just be a bit longer. Although he is a sweet guy, he can inherit a stubborn streak, so be sure to keep on top of his training if you want a well-mannered Whiphund. His coat will be short and silky smooth.

10. German Whippet (Whippet x German Shepherd)

The German Whippet is a loyal dog who adores his family more than anything. Thankfully, with the friendly Whippet genes, he will be more likely to let guests into the house without barking at them. He is full of energy and intelligence, and he will need around an hour of exercise every day.

11. Jackwhip (Whippet x Jack Russell Terrier)

The Jackwhip is a stubborn lil’ chap, but one who is so cheeky and fun that he can get away with it. Depending on the coat of his terrier parent, he could have a short or medium length coat. He will chase and terrorize all the local cats and squirrels. The Jackwhip is a little rascal for sure!

12. Shiba Whippet (Whippet x Shiba Inu)

The Shiba Whippet is a mixture of two very different dog breeds, but he is a mix that works so well. He will be a fantastic balance of protective but sweet, just be sure to socialize him well with other dogs. His coat will be dense and thick, and he’ll need daily brushing.

13. Chi Whip (Whippet x Chihuahua)

The Chi Whip is one of the smallest on this, which is excellent if you are seeking a canine to join you in your apartment. His personality is feisty but full of fun character. This guy is very sensitive and doesn’t like to be left alone, so he needs an attentive family. His coat will be short, and grooming will be minimal.

15. Boxerwhip (Whippet x Boxer)

The Boxerwhip can be a little shy at first, but once he feels comfortable, he will come out of this shell and make everyone laugh ’til their belly hurts. He needs a lot of exercise and mental stimulation to keep him happy. He will inherit the square Boxer appearance, but with a slenderer look.

16. Frenchwhip (Whippet x French Bulldog)

The Frenchwhip is a smaller but chunky guy, with all the rolls you could wish for. He looks a lot like a taller Frenchie, with a longer muzzle. His big bat ears will tower above him, adding to his height. He is a funny pooch who loves to make everyone laugh, and would appreciate a cuddle every evening for being such a good boy.

17. Golden Whippet (Whippet x Golden Retriever)

The Golden Whippet is a friendly family favorite who would make a great addition to families with young children. He is an excellent mixture of energy and calmness, and everyone is bound to love him. He can be a little sensitive, so be sure not to shout at him too much, or he will sulk for a few days. He will shed moderately throughout the year.

18. Hippet (Whippet x Siberian Husky)

The Hippet is a stunning mix, thanks to his fluffy Husky coat and, most likely, his bright blue eyes. Not only will he inherit the endurance of the Husky, but he will also inherit the speed of the Whippet, so this guy’s energy will be boundless.  A little bit stubborn, but also a little sensitive, and a whole bunch of cheekiness, this guy is charming.

19. Whipperman (Whippet x Doberman Pinscher)

This sweet and sensitive guy is a big softie at heart, and he’ll love to spend all of his time with you. He can measure up to 70 pounds in weight, so although he’ll be more slender than his Dobey parent, he’ll still be a large dog. His coat will be smooth and shiny, and usually black and tan in color.

20. Cockerwhip (Whippet x Cocker Spaniel)

The Cockerwhip is one of the biggest sweetie pies on this list, and as such, he makes a great canine sibling for human children. He’ll have long curly ears, and a domed head, but much taller and slimmer. He’ll need to be exercised for about an hour a day, but he’ll forever be pawing at you for a cuddle on the sofa.

21. Whipoint (Whippet x German Shorthaired Pointer)

The Whipoint’s coat will be smooth and short, with the traditional spotty Pointer colorings. His muzzle will be long, and with his large drop-down ears and big eyes, everyone will fall in love with this sweet boy. He is very affectionate and loving with his pack and confident around strangers.

22. Whiprott (Whippet x Rottweiler mix)

Last but certainly not least, the Whiprott. He isn’t really a formidable-looking dog, unlike his Rottweiler parent, but he is still much bigger than the Whippet. His coat will be short and sleek, and again, with the black and tan colorings. He will stand in the way of danger to protect his family if needed, and he will love a long cuddling session most evenings.
