Greek God & Goddess Dog Names
This isn’t just a play on words — though it’s that, too. Some dogs are natural leaders. They prefer to be the alphas in their packs (which you are a part of!) and are not afraid to voice their opinions. Others may be the strong and silent type, and will forever follow your lead. Regardless of your pup’s disposition, name them after a god (or goddess) for a little extra power and meaning.

Bonus: A Famous Greek Dog
Cerberus
If you’re searching for something a little more fearsome, look no further than Cerberus. This mythological dog was believed to guard the gates of Hades, the Underworld. He had between three and fifty heads and a dragon tail. Pretty impressive, right?
Cerberus’s job was to keep people from leaving the Underworld. But like many guard dogs, Cerberus wasn’t perfect at his job and sometimes got distracted. His biggest brush with fame? Hercules, a hero you may remember from Disney, kidnapped him as one of his 12 labors.
Finding the Right Greek Name for Your Dog
Maybe your dog likes to go on odysseys, strike down mere mortals, and guard the gates of hell. Or maybe your pup would just look good on a Greek beach. Regardless of what brought you here, we hope you’ve found the perfect Greek dog name.
And while you’re deciding, a quick word of advice, and a few helpful tips to point you in the right direction:
- Pick a name that your dog can wear well and with pride. If your pup is more goofy than regal, you might want something a little less serious than Hades or Zeus. But if your dog is fierce, naming them after Ares (the god of war) might be just right.
- If you’re unsure, wait until your puppy gets comfortable with their new environment. In doing this, you may be surprised by the personality that comes out of your pup. Getting to know them and seeing their true colors shine before deciding on a name will help you narrow down your search.
- Ask for help! We are sure that your family and friends would be more than happy to offer some feedback and bounce a few names around with you. However, at the end of the day, YOU should love the name as you will be the one using it most often! You might even test it out on your pup – their reaction may be all the feedback you need!
