Though the jury is still out on the long-term effects of creating hybrids, some Pomeranian mixes have fewer health problems than their purebred relatives. The 5 Different Types of Pomeranians Breeds Are:
1. Standard Pomeranian
Pomeranians are a popular toy breed that can adapt to most environments, making them popular dogs for many different lifestyles. Bright and active dogs, they’re listed as part of the Spitz breed group and are considered descendants of the larger German Spitz.
Appearance:
Pomeranians are compact dogs with pointed ears and voluminous plumed tails that curl over their backs. Sporting a dense double coat that can range in color, Pomeranians has a long outer coat and a thick, fluffy undercoat. Males and females stand between 8-14 inches tall and weigh around 3-7 pounds. Pomeranians have three facial variations, but some breeders argue that these variations are not following breed standards.
Temperament:
Pomeranians are social dogs that love to be in the moment wherever they are. While they’re friendly with strangers, Pomeranians love to bark and alert the household of any newcomers. They’re highly intelligent dogs that may have stubborn moments, but they’re also loving companions that remain loyal to their families.
2. Fox-Face Pomeranian
Fox-Face Pomeranians are what the purebred Pomeranian should look like according to the breed standards. Though most breeders won’t call them “Fox-Face” Poms, they’re bred to follow the breed guidelines of a longer snout and pointed fox ears. Any other variation besides the Pomeranian Fox Face will most likely not meet the breed requirements.

3. Teddy-Bear Pomeranian
When the toy-dog pet boom of the early 90s and 2000s hit, new variations of purebred dogs hit the market and exploded in popularity. One of the most requested variations of Pomeranians is the Teddy-Bear. This facial variation smooths out the pointed parts of the traditional Pomeranian face to give them a stuffed animal look. Although they’re adorable, Teddy-Bear Poms are not an official variation and will not pass breed standards.
4. Baby-Doll Pomeranian
Fox-Face and Teddy-Bear Poms are popular, but Baby-Doll Pomeranians are quickly picking up in popularity. Often sporting a cherub-like, round face and expressive eyes, Baby-Doll Pomeranians are often hard to find due to the relatively new demands for this variation. As with the Teddy-Bear variety, Baby-Doll Poms will not pass breed standards in the show ring and are not considered an official variant.

The new demand for these designer dogs has created “dog breeds” that range from adorable to downright odd. Here are a few popular Pomeranian-mixes that have taken over the designer dog market:
Pomchi (Pomeranian x Chihuahua)
Pomchis are the result of a Pomeranian crossed with a Chihuahua. These adorable mixes have the friendliness and playfulness of Pomeranians mixed with the seriousness and loyalty of the Chihuahua. These little pocket pups can grow between 7 to 10 inches tall and rarely weigh more than 12 pounds.

Pomapoo (Pomeranian x Poodle)
Pomapoos are intelligent mixes with coats that vary from fluffy to tightly curled. These Pomeranian-Poodle mixes are great apartment dogs that won’t bark as much as purebred Poms do. Pomapoos are around 9-12 inches tall and typically weigh between 8-15 pounds. Pomapoos were one of the first designer dog breeds at the start of the designer dog breed craze.
Bichonaranian (Pomeranian x Bichon Frise)
Bichonaranians are a mix of a Pomeranian and a Bichon Frise, creating an adorably fluffy, densely coated hybrid. These dogs naturally have high levels of energy and will need lots of daily interaction to keep them happy. Bichonaranians stand at around 10 to 12 inches tall, weighing around 7 to 15 pounds.
