Midwestern Pet Foods Recall

As of March 26, 2021 — Midwestern Pet Foods is issuing a voluntary recall of of certain dog and cat food brands with specific expiration dates including CanineX, Earthborn Holistic, Venture, Unrefined, Sportmix Wholesomes, Pro Pac, Pro Pac Ultimates, Sportstrail, Sportmix and Meridian brands because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella

What Dog Food Products Have Been Recalled?

The recall pertains to only certain products manufactured at Midwestern Pet Foods Monmouth, Illinois facility.  The unique Monmouth Facility identifier is located in the date code as an “M”.

Lot code information may be found on the back of the bags with the following format:
“EXP AUG/02/22/M1/L#

Cause of This Dog Treat Recall

The potential for contamination was noted after a routine sampling tested positive for Salmonella.

What You Need to Know About Salmonella Poisoning

If your pet has Salmonella infection, they may become lethargic and have fever, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, and vomiting. Some less obvious side affects decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. If you pet has become infected but is still otherwise healthy they can still be carriers of Salmonella and infect other animals or humans. If you know your pet has consumed the recalled product, or is currently experiencing any these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian immediately.

Products were distributed to retail stores nationwide and to online retailers.

What to do Next

Consumers who have purchased any of the products from the recalled lots mentioned above should stop the use of the product immediately and may return the unused portion to the place of purchase for a full refund. Retailers are encouraged to contact consumers that have purchased the recalled products if possible.
